Medically referred to as Cherry Angioma but commonly known as blood spots.
This condition can develop in anyone at any age and can be treated quickly and effectively with the right advice and treatment. Blood spots are not dangerous but they can become worse and affect your confidence if left untreated.
What are blood spots?
Cherry Angioma are small blood spots that are benign vascular blemishes. They can vary in size from small pin dots to as large as a penny; and in colour from bright red to darker tones. Cherry angioma are not painful, but may bleed when scratched and can become distressing, particularly if they are in difficult to mask areas.
How can blood spots be treated?
At The Beauty Place, we effectively treat blood spots simply and easily using Lynton IPL (intense pulsed light, similar to laser) or by Thermolysis, using advanced electrolysis.
Both treatments are a safe, effective way to banish blood spots.
Which treatment option is best for you will be determined during consultation.
Thermolysis using advanced electrolysis generates micro-bursts of high-frequency energy, which is released through the tip of the micro-probe and delivered directly to the tiny spider veinblood spot. The heat causes the blood in the vessel to coagulate, then the blemish gradually dissolves and is removed through the body’s natural immune system, leaving the skin smooth and clear.
IPL is similar to laser treatment. However, a laser focuses just one wavelength of light at your skin, while IPL releases light of many different wavelengths, like a photo flash. The light from IPL is more scattered and less focused than a laser. IPL penetrates down to the second layer of your skin (dermis) without harming the top layer (epidermis), so it causes less damage to your skin.
The intense pulse of light is directed at the blood spot causing it to heat up very quickly. This heat will cause the blemish to break down. This then gradually dissolves and is removed through the body’s natural immune system, leaving the skin smooth and clear.
It is also possible to remove facial Thread Veins and Spider Naevi (Telangiectasia Angioma - central dilated blood vessels with small capillaries radiating from it), using the same methods.
What is the treatment process and how many sessions will I need?
The first stage in blood spot treatment is consultation. During this time, the area to be treated will be examined and after discussing relevant medical details and treatment suitability we will advise on the best treatment plan for you.
Patch testing of the area is then carried out to determine optimal treatment parameters and skin reaction, ensuring the safest, most effective treatment for you.
In most cases, results can be achieved after one treatment but we sometimes recommend up to three treatments for maximum results.
We allow 2-4 weeks between each treatment depending on skin health, age and healing capabilities.
How long does each treatment take?
Depending on the size and number of blood spots to be treated, treatment time is usually 5-15 mins.
What is the cost of treatment for blood spots?
Treatment is typically between £130 and £160.
Initial consultation, including patch testing and aftercare product is £20. This will be taken as a deposit to confirm your appointment.
